The station is named after Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna, a 19th-century Indian freedom fighter who led the Sangolli Rayanna army in the Anglo-Mysore Wars. The station is located at a depth of about 20 meters below the ground. The station has two platforms located on either side of the tracks.
