Panchalingeshwara temple is located in the center of Begur. It has an 1100-year-old inscription which is the oldest existing reference to a place called 'Bengaluru'.[3] The Western Ganga Dynasty ruled the area and in the 10th century, the Cholas acquired the territory.

Ereganga Neetimarga built the Nageshwara temple around the 9th century and Akthiyar of the Chola Kingdom built the Panchaligeshwara temple.
